The Brighter Planet Blog

Contest overview

Palates will be whetted.  Carbon will be saved.  Appetites will be sated.  Prizes will be won.

There’s no shortage of conservation tips out there.  We’ve all seen them.  But let’s face it: the real inspiration lies in stories demonstrating real people’s real life experiences reducing their impact, proving how you can have fun getting it done.  Introducing Mastering the Art of Sustainable Cooking, a cooking contest from Brighter Planet.

Share your experience of how you use less energy and reduce waste without sacrificing nutrition, flavor, or the joy of sharing a delicious meal! The contest gives you, regardless of your culinary experience, the opportunity to inspire others to create great food that’s also good for the planet.  And it’s not just about sharing what you’ve already done, of course– try a new tip, and tell us about how it went!

Anyone can participate. Just browse the contest categories, think about what you’ve done to reduce your “foodprint”– the impact of your dining on the environment– and start sharing.  (Don’t hold back… you can enter up to 25 tip experiences!)

Top experiences will be judged by a panel that includes Alice Waters, Bill McKibben, and Gary Hirshberg, and dozens of winners will take home sustainable cooking prizes including EatingWell cookbooks & magazine subscriptions, Stonyfield Farms gift baskets, sustainable cookware from Guyot Designs and To-Go Ware, and Amazon Kindle DXs.  As our friends at Treehugger reported, the Kindle is “greener than the printed word!”  Here’s your chance to load one up with cookbooks.

Schedule

The contest runs through December 31. Winners will be announced in January.

Our latest winner is Daisy, who won a gift basket from EatingWell Magazine for her great tips on Pantry Raiding!

A special thanks to our friends
